Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Xu Huang is a significant character in Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a fictionalized account of the late Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. A capable general renowned for his discipline and battlefield prowess, Xu Huang initially served under Yang Feng, a bandit leader.

Xu Huang's first notable appearance is around Chapter 13, when he advises Yang Feng against harboring the fleeing Emperor Xian. He eventually recognizes Emperor Xian's legitimacy and seeks a better lord, leading him to serve under various factions before eventually joining Cao Cao's growing forces.

Under Cao Cao, and later Cao Pi, Xu Huang distinguished himself in numerous battles. He played key roles in campaigns against rival warlords, demonstrating strategic acumen and bravery. He is often depicted as a calm and collected commander, known for his calculated tactics and ability to maintain order among his troops. He earned the respect of his peers and his enemies, solidifying his reputation as one of the formidable generals of the Wei kingdom.
